Zovo Holdings LLC · Last updated: 28 September 2026
Zovo Holdings LLC ("Zovo", "we") provides a tipping service for hospitality workers. These terms cover three different people, and only the section that describes you applies to you: someone using this website, a guest leaving a tip, and a worker receiving one. The agreement with a property that buys the service is a separate signed contract, described at the end.
This website
Report layouts and any figures shown on this site illustrate what the service provides. They are not performance guarantees, and they are not a forecast of what any property will earn.
Nothing on this site forms a contract. Pricing, payout arrangements and service levels are set out in the agreement signed with each operator.
Do not attempt to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to this site or the service behind it. If you find a security problem, we would rather you told us: see the responsible disclosure section of our Security page.
If you are a guest leaving a tip
A tip is voluntary. You choose the amount, and you can always choose to leave nothing. There is a visible way to decline on every tipping page, and we will never hide it, shrink it or make it hard to find. This is not only our preference — a payment is only a tip, rather than a service charge, when the person paying is free from compulsion and free to set the amount, including zero.
The worker receives the full amount you choose to tip. We never take a cut of a tip. Not a percentage, not a fixed amount, not in any circumstance.
A service fee is added on top of the tip. Card processing costs money. Rather than take it out of the worker's tip, we add a fee on top. The fee covers what the card networks charge us, plus a margin of 2% of the tip plus $0.15 for running the service, rounded to the nearest five cents. In practice:
| You tip | Fee | You are charged | The worker gets |
|---|---|---|---|
| $5.00 | $0.75 | $5.75 | $5.00 |
| $10.00 | $1.00 | $11.00 | $10.00 |
| $20.00 | $1.50 | $21.50 | $20.00 |
The exact fee is always itemised on screen, above the pay button, before you pay anything, and the pay button shows the total. The fee applies to every card tip; it is what lets the worker receive the whole tip. Declining to tip at all is always free.
Limits. The smallest tip is $3.00 and the largest is $500.00. Above $50.00 we ask you to confirm before charging, because a mistyped amount at that size is more likely than a deliberate one.
What appears on your statement. Charges appear as ZOVO followed by the property's name.
Changed your mind? For two hours after a tip settles you can refund it yourself from the thank-you page ("Wrong amount?"), using the link you landed on after paying. That refunds the whole charge — the tip and the fee — to your card, and the worker is not charged anything. The self-serve refund is capped at $150; above that, or after two hours, email support@zovotipping.com and we will sort it out.
After you tip. The thank-you page shows one of two things, depending on the property:
- A review invite. Five stars and a "Leave a review" link that open the property's Google review page (or another review site the property chose). The invite is exactly the same for every guest, whatever star you tap, and whatever you thought of the service. Tapping a star also saves that score as private feedback to the property. Nobody is paid, rewarded or discounted for leaving a review, and a review is always your own words on Google's site, under Google's terms.
- A private say-thanks form. For 24 hours after a tip you can give a 1–5 star score, leave a short message (up to 280 characters) and pick from a set of service tags. The worker and the property can read it.
Report a problem to the manager. Every thank-you page, whatever you tipped and whatever you rated, has a way to tell the property's managers about a problem privately. It is never offered instead of the review invite. For 24 hours after a tip you can send up to three messages (up to 1,000 characters each), with contact details if you want a reply. They go to the property's managers, not to the worker.
What you write. Please keep notes and reports about the service — do not put anyone else's personal information into them, or anything you would not want a manager to read. We can remove a note or report on request from you or from the worker it names.
Your card details never reach us. They go from your browser to Stripe, our payment processor. What we hold, and for how long, is in our Privacy Policy.
If you are a worker receiving tips
Zovo is not your employer. We provide the tag and the software. Your employer is the property you work for. They decide your roster, your hours and your pay. Your tips are paid by Stripe, our payment processor, straight to your own payout account, and Stripe pays that account out weekly, on Fridays. You set the account up with Stripe before your tag can take tips; until then, guests who tap it are told you are not set up yet and are not charged. Questions about your wages, hours and roster are questions for your employer.
Your tips are yours in full. We never deduct anything from a tip. What a guest tips you is what is recorded against your name.
Tips are usually taxable income. In the United States, tips are generally reportable income and your employer normally reports them through payroll. We give your property the export they need to do that. We are not able to give you tax advice; if you are unsure, ask your employer or a tax professional.
Your account. You sign in with your phone number and a code we text you. Keep your phone secure. If you lose it, tell your manager — they can sign your sessions out immediately.
Your data. You can ask us for a copy of everything we hold about you, and you can ask us to delete your identity while we keep the earnings records the law requires. Both work today. Email support@zovotipping.com, or see the Privacy Policy.
If you are a property using Zovo
Your commercial terms — pricing, billing, payout arrangements, service levels, data ownership and termination — are in the agreement you signed with us. That agreement governs, and nothing on this website changes it. Every property also agrees to our review rules: the review invite is the same for every guest, no guest is steered away from reviewing because of a low score, and no one is rewarded for a review.
The ordinary legal part
The service is provided as it is. We work hard to keep it running and accurate, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Where the law allows us to, we exclude implied warranties.
Limits on our liability. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Payments are handled by Stripe under Stripe's own terms, and a worker setting up a payout account also agrees to Stripe's Connected Account Agreement.
Changes. We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top, and if a change is significant we will say so on the page rather than quietly editing it.
Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah.
